Track:Pinball Number Song (DJ Food Edit)
Having spent a week with my daughter here in Vancouver has not only been a vastly enjoyable experience, but also a return to simpler things, such as relearning how to act like a child. For example I'm rediscovering how much fun it is to watch Sesame Street. I'm not talking about the sterile Sesame Street that is being produced now, but the ones I was watching in the 70's when I was a kid. God bless all those YouTube Fanatics who take the time to upload clips of this brilliant series. The guys at CTW really knew how to make a show enjoyable for both kids and their parents, the first of their kind to do so.The reason for this post is not necessarily to espouse the merits of the show but to call to your attention (for those of you who didn't already know) something I discovered about one of the vignettes they used to show on Sesame Street. I'm sure all of you remember this little ditty...Turns out this catchy number was written by the Pointer Sisters in 1978 for the show. I had no idea. Researching it further, I found that this was re-released as a single in 2003 on the venerable trip-hop label Ninja Tune, featuring this edit done by DJ Food of the original 1978 cut. Two other tracks from the single are remixes of Cookie Monster's Number 1 hit "C Is For Cookie", which is in fact the title track for the release. I now must find and buy this record.
I think gone are the days when TV producers put as much effort into a childrens' TV show as Jim Henson and the CTW people did. I just thought it would be neat to revisit this in a blog post and share it with all of you.Greetings and salutations from Vancouver.
