Reason #34309 that I'm not a hipster

Posted almost 5 years ago
I haven't given "Wincing the Night Away" a good listen. I've listened to it half heartedly twice, and then whatever they played at the show.I looked through my videos and realized how beautiful this song is. There... that's one reason. The song is beautiful. I can't tell you why. I like the lyrics, his voice and the music. I don't know the harmonies, key, chords, beat, etc.And I don't care.I've been listening to this song on repeat for about a day, and now... I'm about to edit the soundclip, so i can listen to my favorite part over and over again.I'm not a hipster, I'm not indie... I'm just a music junkie. I overdose on my music everyday, but I love it. Other's may not be able to handle such high doses of the same song over and over again, but I've built up my tolerance. My ears and brain are trained for this aural bliss that I experience. And I know many pretentious music fans think less of me for it... I guess that makes them happy. And this is what makes me happy.

  1. Scarlett Echo says I listened to that song for days straight and then dove into the rest of the album and found there were other tracks also worthy of aural overdose.

  2. Peggah says If I didn't have to be so damn productive, I would be looking through those songs.

  3. petenema says So far, I've only done the half-hearted listen for this CD. (Despite the fact that I overdosed on their last album). Oh, I tend to overdose on full albums... like I did with Phoenix recently. Anyway, thanks for the reminder. I spend so much time listening to CD submissions that I sometimes forget to listen to music that I want to listen to. I'm going to give this a listen today, and I'll start with that song. Cheers, Pete

  9. Peggah says Hahaha, I may not really have 34308 other reasons... but I do have one. And it makes me more mainstream than any true hipster could handle, haha.

  10. banglo says Phantom Limb is the killer track on the album. Sea Legs anyone? I wouldn't mind the Shins doing a couple of more songs towards this direction (fusing hip hop beats to mercer's vocals).

  11. leftoverking says i wouldn't mind having them doing a couple more songs period. i am having a hard time with this one. i have listened to it four times now, and i keep spacing out and then, zip it's over. i really love their first two records, but wincing kind of strikes me as a little boring, and short. what happened to the rock and roll songs? i'm just not having that irresistable urge to sing along... damnit.
