Because he's considered a songwriter and I'm not

Unfortunately, when I was thirteen, there was no myspace.com, or purevolume.com, and definitely no mog.com. I found out about music the nice way, through tv. However, one afternoon while mallratting at a Contempo Casuals, I realized that there was good music playing in the store. As I paid for my $50 jeans that I wore twice, I asked the clerk for the setlist. That's when I discovered Tahiti 80. Sure, you can give the excuse of "being thirteen" for falling in love with their pop single "Heartbeat", but it's a song that gives you hope in the pop scene. Pop songs that didn't care about TRL or who's producing whom. I bought their album at the first store I found it, a Harmony House. The two stores that helped my Tahiti 80 obsession are both extinct, when both had been big chains. Interesting. I digress. I bought "Puzzle" and feel in love with every track... eventually. Let's not forget, I was thirteen, and still in the phase of listening to my favorite song over and over again. (Hell, I'm still like that) My favorite song changed with every full album listen. I began to fall in love with the album, and raved to all of my friends. However, at thirteen, with the lack of internet and social help, I never knew about their concerts. Then in 2002, I somehow find out that Tahiti 80 is coming to town. I was seventeen this time, and I had been to a few concerts, but I still wasn't very concert savvy. I forgot about the concert, until the day of. I begged my friend to drive me, and we arrived to some small bar in Detroit. I could have easily been their biggest fan there. I started taking pictures as they were setting up their gear. After the show, I waited for them to pack up to get a picture with all of them. I probably spent $70 at the show. But it was worth it. I picked up their second album, "Wallpaper for the Soul". I had heard their new songs at the show, and I was sold. More pop worthy for anyone who thinks about what they're listening to. With "Wallpaper for the Soul", I loved the changes from the first album, although at first I was weary. I fell in love with the songs, their music and the orchestra. The band's album was just as good as the first, however, still fresh. Whatever mood I was in, there was a song for me on this album. There were many rainy days spent listneing to "The Train" and "1000 Times", motivating me to either do homework, or dance around my house. I made mix mood cds from songs off of both albums. My Tahiti 80 love was sate. However, they were nowhere in site. As I started to become more aware of concerts, and new artists, I wished to see them live again. Their sound was one of a kind in my collection of music. (I hadn't gotten into Ivy until much later, unfortunately.) Years passed and I found "A Piece of Sunshine". This was my album of 2004. Every song matched with a different event in that year. I began to listen to it constantly. When I would concentrate on the worst, "In My Arms" would drown my ears. I still listen to "Better Days Will Come", when I'm in need of some positive thinking. The other day I heard "Antonelli" on a Saturn commercial, and felt proud... for a band I've only seen once! :) After "A Piece of Sunshine", news of "Fosbury" surfaced. I was excited to hear more Tahiti 80 songs, and hoping for a Tahiti 80 US tour, however, this changed. I admit, when I first heard "Changes", I did nooooot like it. I also didn't give it much of a listen. Through the newsletter I was getting updates of release dates in everywhere but North America. I did not want to pay $45 for an import copy, so I obtained the tracks in another fashion. Don't worry RIAA, once the cd is available to me (11/14!) I will be buying a copy or two! I just couldn't wait to listen to the album. It wasn't until this year that I gave the album a fair listen. Again, Tahiti 80 implemented new styles into their solid pop sound. I fell in love with "Big Day" and even "Changes" once I had given it a proper listen. On their myspace, I discovered a new liking for their song "Chinatown" which reminded me of all the reasons I love Tahiti 80. When I found out that "Chinatown" will be put on the US release of "Fosbury", I was ecstatic! Along with the news of "Fosbury" being released in the States, were a list of concert dates in the US. Unfortunately, they are not coming to MI, so my biggest dilemma is whether or not I should buy the cd before the concert or at the concert in Chicago or Toronto. :) With artists like Britney Spears, Brooke Hogan, and Paris Hilton, the present and future of pop music looks bleak. It's up to these French musicians to help sway our hearts with their beautiful pop melodies. Thanks to babelfish, I can proudly say: Tout le monde doit aimer Tahiti 80!
