... and no one ever will.My parents went to see Lena Horne's one-woman Broadway show in the early 1980s and were blown away by her talent and superstar goddess charisma. They attended the show on her 65th birthday, which I believe was also closing night, and my father was just knocked out by her sexy patter, her pipes and her soulfulness. I have adored the entire soundtrack to this event for over 2
A friend of mine gave me "Hopes and Fears" a few summers ago and I have great memories of road tripping up through the Northern Kingdom of Vermont wailing all these great tunes while driving empty, winding roads past huge, amazing lakes. I think "Everybody's Changing" is my favorite. It's the most poppy, it's has great swoopy chord progressions and it's eminently sing-alongable. Rock out, Brit boy
When a friend gave me the original Broadway cast album of "Hairspray", I was really turned off by Marissa Whatshername's over-done Broadway belt. Yick. It ruined the album for me, but when I saw the movie starring Nikki Blonsky, I was totally charmed. The music is upbeat and stupid, and you'll laugh out loud at lyrics like Good morning, Baltimore/There's the flasher who lives next door/there's ...
I heard this song on the radio a few months ago and instantly fell in love with it. I was never able to find the version by the artist who was on the radio, but I found these two kooky versions, one by the Juggernaut Jug Band from "Don't Try This At Home" and the other, a more wild klezmeresque version by Hazmat Modine, from their album "Bahamut."I recommend them both for just great music with ...
There is no way you can listen to this song and stay in a bad mood. You just can't. It's my favorite song to sing in the car with my sister. She goes for the soprano line and I hit the alto. You could be having the most bitter argument of all time and you would still have to stop what you were doing and bop around to this delightful track. The Ditty Bops for world peace!
This is a great African folk song that has been sung by civil rights folks and church choirs for a long time. I'm psyched that it's in our new Unitarian Universalist hymnal supplement, and we sang it last week in church with me on lead vocals. I wanted to find a smokin' version to share with my Music Director so I downloaded two different ones, one by the awesome group Osibisa and another by t...
These guys were just plain too much fun the other night. I love Johnny D's because it's a bit of an older crowd and everyone just dances their pants off without worrying about being chic or cool. The lead singer is totally adorable and totally rocks out on Wilson Pickett tunes. This is a can't-miss good time with great music. Check out their gig schedule at:http://www.thesoulband.net/
Nick Cave wrote the screenplay and composed the music for this amazing film. I don't know if I loved it enough to buy the soundtrack, but I am definitely recommending the film to everyone. You can find a review of it over at my other blog, wwww.peacebang.com.That Nick Cave is one deep dark dude.
