With both The Race and Morning Runner both releasing great albums in 2006 it was a good year for both music coming out of Reading (uk) and for bands with athletic names!!. Whereas Morning Runner had a killer single in 'Burning Benches' that propelled them into the top 20 The Race have yet to enjoy similar commercial success. The album 'Be your Alibi' received rave reviews and is full of epic sounds and brimming with the kind of confidence of a band who believe they can go the distance. Whether its stadium sized anthems such as 'Amersham Road' and 'Raising Children' or tender pop moments such as 'Smile' The Race have the ideas and diversity to succeed in having the kind of future that so many one dimensional indie bands these days do not. If you like The Arcade Fire or The Pixies then you'll hear a lot of these influences in this band and that can never be a bad thing. Check out the following mp3
