The Old Crow Medicine Show are earning their reputation on the road and playing live. Since O.C.M.S in 2004 they have gone from strength to strength, making sure that people around the world found out what they could do with their roots-grass and fabulous singing. Big Iron World in 2006, again produced by Gillian Welch's guitar playing partner David Rawlings, was once again a success and there was no sophomore slump.
Now we have Tennessee Pusher, produced by maestro Don Was, and this slice of Old Crow is simply tasty and goes down a treat. Kicking off with the fiddle driven Alabama High Test, which is an ode to some sort of southern weed, the ditty Methamphetamine soon tells us that it will rock you like a hurricane. This is old time-y music telling us about the ills of the world that are easy to come by whether you be in Kentucky or down Dubbo way.
So seven years down the road and Ketch, Willie and Critter are still picking and singing beautifully along with the other fellas. This record is just another installment to let you have something to take home from the show and to ensure you don't forget these young men playing music from another time but with their own twist. Lyrically political at times, as in Hotel In Memphis (about Martin Luther King), they are not heading down the mainstream of Nashville Country.
As Neil Young said, sometimes it's much more interesting down in the ditch then in the middle of the road. These boys are doing it the real way by playing live as much as possible and reaping the rewards of honing their skills each night. I look forward to more of this Old Crow Medicine Show.

They are AWESOME, truly unique! I just saw them live for the first time this past Friday night. They played 2 consecutive nights in Washington DC and sold out both of them. I was amazed by the eclectic crowd. I haven't bought any of their albums, but now I must have them all!
