Jihae

Anyone heard or seen Jihae slithering around the web? This should be too artsy-fartsy Manhattan Poetry Slam for my modest middle-west sensibilities, but she, like only a select few other performers (Tori Amos, for one. Hope Sandoval, another), has the ability to melt me to my seat when I hear her voice with its sad, haunting quality.

Or it could be as simple and unedifying as having a 'thing' for Japanese chicks.

Radiohead Singalong

Don't try to sing along with Radiohead while drunk. I think I made my neighbor's dog cry. I had something significant thought out to say about this song, but, again, I've had too much to drink to remember something important from at least half a minute ago. I'm sorry. Please listen anyway.
Oh, in case you were wondering, and I can't imagine you were, I was singing along with the background voice around the 2:50 mark. The melody is beautiful. Drunk and loud is not.

Heat = Bad. Compilation Album = Good.

I hate the heat so I'm wasting air-conditioned hours making compilation CDs. Just finished a Neil Young 4 CD comp, and re-acquainted myself with the song "Inca Queen" from 1987's LIFE (I had the cassette when I was a wee one). It is an 80's album with 80's keyboards, mind you, but I think this is one of NY's most beautiful songs. It's a bit lengthy, but see what you think.

Uncertain About New Bright Eyes Album

Hey. I can't yet get my head around the new Bright Eyes, "Cassadaga". Perhaps it's me, anyone else care to tell me why I'm so hesitant about this new stuff?

While I await your hopefully pleasant comments, I need to reach back to one of my old favorites, which, to me, is far, far removed from this new album. Oh well. Maybe you all can convince me to keep giving it a try. Later.

To all you red haired, green eyed Irish lasses, I neither vomited nor urinated on any of your shoes this year, so I expect special thanks from each of you. But while I'm waiting, here's a lullaby to put you to sleep, by Sinead O'Connor and The Chieftains. Gotta go, the pipes, the pipes are calling. Until later days.

Help Me With Your Favorite Dylan Comma Bob Songs

I'm thinking of making a Dylan compilation of some of my favorites, and I thought some of you may enjoy helping me with suggestions about your preferences and favorites. I'm actually looking for early acoustic, but I'll listen to anything suggested. Thanks in advance, and here's my favorite Dylan song for you to list compile to.

My Students are Morons

After overhearing a group of my Freshmen students (18 yr olds) comment on the music in the latest Jordan/Nike commercial, I have felt remiss for not posting this earlier. Well, I'm posting it now.

One of the giggling girls stated proudly that the music was originally from Evanescence, or some such nonsense. I corrected her, stating calmly that the "Lacrymosa" used in the commercial comes from Mozart's unfinished Requiem. "Oh" was the ineffectual answer I received. I continued to inquire, but no one, not even those who were in chorale in high school had ever listened to Mozart. Maybe I should be thankful to Nike for introducing them to Mozart, but then we have the Evanescence thing which I don't even know about, so, screw it. I'll be pissed off and post a shot of the actual eight bar "Lacrymosa" from Mozart. If you hate classical....well, go buy some Nikes, and skip to the next post.

More Summer Music

I've read a handfull of random mogs tonight, and three-fourths of them have been angry, depressive, or bare-bones mean. It may be due to the untimely death of Ana Nicole Smith, but I rather think it's due to the cold. So dust off your Summer music, give it a spin, and you'll warm up, allowing that frosty bug to crawl back out of your asses.
Here is another selection from my Summer music, which usually had to do with being on the road. Now I'm warm, hope you are as well. Unless, of course, you don't care for the Dead. In that case, skip to the next mog and shiver away. 'Night.

Summer

Twenty Below Zero Wind-Chill reminds me...hey, I really miss Summer. So I dug out my old Summer music, which always included Blues Traveler, to try to warm myself up. BT brings back memories from the old HORDE Fest road trips, and smoking. Those days are gone, now, as I have quit both smoking and having friends. Ah, the music is working, I can feel my fingertips again.

Something New

At least it's new to me.

I like this sound, it's reminiscent of the early 90's. Well, the early 90's that didn't suck outlandish ass. I think I really like this, but I could simply be loopy from not getting to bed yet. I don't know for sure...
What do you think? Is this good stuff? Or am I loopy?

A Bit Of Fun

This track always makes me smile. My brother and I caught YBB's last show at the Zoo Bar in Lincoln, NE <www.zoobar.com>. The trumpet parts reminded us both of the music from the running scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Okay, it's not exactly the same, but it's still a fun tune, so just lay off, pal.
(PS., if you happen to be in Nebraska next week, and, really, why wouldn't you be, check out Cougar on Wednesday, Jan. 31st at the Zoo Bar. The drummer/voice on the track below is the drummer for Cougar as well. I'd buy you a pitcher, but alas, I can't make it, I teach on Wednesday night. Blasted students and their penchant for attending class.)

An Inch Of Dust On This One

A tall CD Tower that I hadn't touched in three literal years inexplicably toppled this evening, leaving me to scour through very dust covered discs, like this one. Anyone remember Shudder To Think? I saw them as an opener to the Smashing Pumpkins on the Siamese Dream tour, and I ran right out and bought two albums, one of which I can't find. That was the combined "Funeral At The Movies" and "Ten Spot," and this one, "Get Your Goat." I bought two others as they were released, "Pony Express Record," and "50,000 B.C." but they didn't have the raw sound I liked in the early stuff. If I could find my "Funeral At The Movies," I'd play you something from that, but I can't so this is from 1992 off of "Get Your Goat." Golly, nostalgia's a hoot.

Thought about Alice Cooper today, swore that I had seen him for the first time on the Muppet Show as a child, snooped around and found that I was right. Christ, I can't believe I'm actually old enough to remember the Muppet Show, let alone remember the musical guests that I saw for the first time as a wee lad (Blondie, Elton John, Billy Joel, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Judy Collins, John Denver, Leo Sayer)...please forget I said that last one.

Sorry

I know this is a heartless post to do after the "Death of a Friend" post, and I am sorry. However, I saw this on a Family Guy, and now on YouTube, and I am addicted to it. I don't know what it is or where they took it from, if it's an actual song, something from a nonsensical children's show or from a Spanish game-show on Univision, but I am addicted to it. I don't laugh at all, probably because I don't get the joke...but I am addicted to it. I simply think about it and I can't hide my smile, even in a crowd, so it could become a problem. Anybody know where the Family Guy people got this from? Maybe I don't want to know...it may ruin it for me. Oh God, I need to watch it again.

This is Anthem from 1975. I had Guitarist Alex Lifeson's hair and facial expressions in the fourth grade, but I wasn't cool, I got beaten up for it. What the fuck gives?

Hey, Here's that drum solo I told y'all about. Tell me this isn't better than YYZ? This is called Rhythm Method, I think, or as the Germans on YouTube term it, "Der Trommler". Fuckin' Germans.

Hi. I'm new to this which means I have no clue how to post a video. So fuck off all you laughing at me. Yes I'm from Nebraska and Yes, we just got electric telephone machines. Anyway, here's a link for "The Trees", one of the best Rush Songs. Three things about this circa 1981 video: 1:Long Hair, 2: Longer Nose : 3: Longest On Talent. Anyway, if this doesn't work, it's not my fault. It's these new fangled electric calculating boxes that are to blame.

Happy New Year's Eve, and a Happy New.... Ah, Piss On It.

BANKJOB, Barenaked Ladies: wonderful song to listen to right now. It's New Year's Eve in Middle Nebraska, and I've learned something important about myself: Ice Storms Fucking Suck Buckets Of Cocks. I can't go out, hell, I can't open my car door from the ice. I know it's winter, but this isn't fucking Fargo...no offense to you Northerners up above me.
Ah well, nothing at all to do. I'll have a drink for you all. Please have one for me. Have a good night, and pray with me the next year is better than the last. Even though it starts with a fucking Ice Storm....Bah!
Happy Days, People. Good Night.
