The Rogues play bagpipes. I like bagpipes.

I like bagpipes. I'm Scottish, and you bet I've listened to bagpipes. Even been to a few bagpipe concerts (Which I will name as soon as I remember which ones). I admit that I rarely actively seek out bagpipe music; for example, it was very strange for me this morning when I had the sudden urge to pop a bagpipe CD into my computer. However, whenever I come across bagpipes, they heal my soul, man. Heal my soul. I don't understand why anybody wouldn't like bagpipes. Anyways, I write this post to share with you my opinion on The Rouges.I first listened to The Rogues at the Maryland Renassiance Festival. I've heard bagpipe bands before, and I must admit, I quite like 'em, but The Rogues are no ordinary bagpipe band. It might just be me, but it seems that every bagpipe song out there starts slightly different, but all end up sounding pretty much the same. However, when The Rogues play, it's different. As they put it, The Rogues are "the bad boys of Celtic music." Their style isn't that of an ordinary bagpipe band; they play pretty fast pace songs, and their drum line is up there and keeps the music moving. The bagpipes are layed on top, and sometimes seem secondary to the song, but it winds up being just right. Whenever I hear their music, those strange dregs of Scottish culture that make me want a Utilikilt and prompt my parents to buy me four cases of IRN-BRU for my birthday well up, and if it weren't for my own lack of experience, you bet I'd be doing a jig with the best of 'em.The Rogues have some excellent albums out, and I currently own Off Kilter and Rogues V.0 (That's five-point-oh). I recommend both, though I prefer Off Kilter. V.0 has some rather emotional and artsy stuff, though they'd be delicious for any fan of bagpipes. However, The Rogues are much better live. Their main venue is renassiance festivals, and these wind up being quite entertaining, for their performance almost always involves beer, dancing girls, Elvis impersonations, and excellent music from all of their albums. It's an event. Everybody should go at some point. So, in conclusion, The Rogues are one of the best bands ever. Bagpipe music will heal your soul, and The Rogues are nothing but skilled and fun loving. Go see 'em.
