WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

By the time I had hit 14, my friend and I had set aside our Beatles fixation for a new idol: David Bowie. We each tried to out-listen and out-collect each other. That Christmas, I remember being so jealous she had gotten the "Sound + Vision" box set, and I hadn't. I got a copy of "Tonight" instead, which seemed like a cruel joke. I worked my way up the David Bowie chain chronologically, and I was excited for "Low" after listening to "Station to Station," which still might be my favorite Bowie album. What I got baffled me. I can remember listening to the last half of the album and being CRUSHED that he wasn't singing. "Instrumentals? Ugggggggh." One fall evening, I listened to the entire album as I was drawing objects outside my window. The whole thing clicked. "Low" is fantastic because I know if it helped me open my eyes a little wider, I'm sure it helped others as well. Fantastic piece of work. Have at it!
