SOUNDS OF FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT PERFECT

Double Dutch

Malcolm McLaren.There. I said his name. Are you angry? Excited? A little bit of both? Angcited?Regardless of what you think of him, you cannot deny the man (or at least his take on history) is fascinating. With "Madame Butterfly" popping up on international runways and people clamoring for the "Deep in Vogue" music video (R.I.P. Willi Ninja), it seems the world is ripe to host his craziness once more. You know we need it.This song makes me giggle and shake it simultaneously. His intonation SLAYS me. And to think Art of Noise was in on all of this... too great. EBONETTES!

  1. Perpetual Emotion Machine says The first thing I heard from Malcolm McClaren was Duck Rock (of course) and I have to admit that I didn't like it as much as some people. However, Double Dutch was my favourite track from that record. Of course, I bought it after hearing that Anne and JJ had a hand in its creation. As far as Malcolm goes, I much preferred "Presents The World Famous Supreme Team Show":http://www.discogs.com/release/206051 (1988), in terms of ultimate listenability for myself, because it more suited what I was listening to at the time: dance music. It featured one of my favourite tracks, "Operaa House", (which was used for a car commercial or something afterwards) and new remixes of "Buffalo Gals" and "The World Famous Supreme Team Show". Come to think of it it was more of an EP... but either it was my pick. :)

  2. ivylander says I had the radio DJ version of "Duck Rock" without the interstitial material from the World's Famous Supreme Team - didn't hear any of that stuff until years later, when I sprung for the CD version. It's better without that stuff. The great, great song on that record, for me, is "Soweto." I tried to like the other stuff he has done, but it's no use....

  3. reverend geoffrey says he's a fraud. he's a charlatan. he's an asshole. he also knows talent. 'duck rock' is the 1st hip-hop album that ventured beyond the possibilities of where hip-hop could go. nice post.

  4. Cody B says A fixture on my college radio show back in the day. Nice one. Hard to be mad at him, as Ivy said, there were great people on these records.
