I have been listening to Quasimoto for about as long as any Stones Throw artist, but not until recently when I purchased my first cd of his did I actually take the time to look into who he is, and madlib's stoner rap alias is just that. I've seen cases of chronic schizophrenia that begin as a simple alter-egos, and develop into a split personalitites that shrowd the importance of ones own born character, but Lord Quas is definitely an exception. I really just figured he had all his beats made by madlib, but now I want to buy as many of his albums as I can because of not only the humor in his rhymes, but the talent exhibited in songs where he and Madlib's voices trade off.
It's quite a pleasant surprise when you discover that a good musician has a lot of names that they go by , especially in terms of production. To me, madlib just seems like a very sophisticated priducer who is urging to be a carelessly blazed rapper with a high pitched voice. Needless to say I think he has succeeded at both, his array of styles is impressive by any standard, and The Other Side of Los Angeles which was presented by TimeOut clearly demonstrates this.
