RjD2 Live Set Inspires Purchase of Old Mixtape

Posted about 1 year ago

I had the privilege of going to this year's Download Festival, which turned out to be quite a let down despite the fantastic ending that made it worth the wait. I've never been into bands like Gang of Four or Jesus and Mary Chain, but thankfully once I had sat through all of these headliners practically the whole crowd left the Shoreline establishing me with a prime standing position for RJD2. He was the last to play, and really there were only about 500-700 people still at the front of the stage by ther time he was spinning. He fumbled the rythm a few times, but that can only be expected of a producer who uses vinyl, and works with four simultaneous turntables.

The reason why I am making this post however is to share with you the amazing listening experience that I stumbled upon while searching through Amoeba yesterday, and that is his early mix entitled "Your Face Or Your Kneecaps", which contains about an hours woth of material all put into a very fluid 39 track cd. The 14th track on the cd also remixes At The Helm by Hieroglyphics which was the most impressive to me as a resident of the bay, and a long time appreciator of Third Eye Vision.

Sweet tune! Shame not many stuck around to hear the guy at the fest.

It was actually really strange how greatful he was to see even that many people there.  He repeatedly thanked the audience for staying, while most of us were there just for him anyway.
