WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Avril Lavigne Gets Served

Posted over 2 years ago
Avril Lavigne is being sued by the 1970's pop group The Rubinoos, who say the Canadian pop star ripped off one of their songs for her hit single "Girlfriend." We assume this is the type of stuff that happens all the time when you have someone else writing your music.Tommy Dunbar and James Gangwer of The Rubinoos say that for "Girlfriend" Lavigne and her co-writers ripped off their 1979 song "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend," which judging by the title sounds like rip off of a Ramones song.In a statement Dunbar explained: "We are not so naive as to chalk it up to some sort of cosmic coincidence. The lyric, the meter, the rhythm — they're identical."Avril Lavigne VS. The RubinoosThe pair, who also wrote the theme song for the movie Revenge of the Nerds, filed the lawsuit in a U.S. District Court and the first court date has been set for Aug. 28 in Oakland, California.Lavigne's camp might settle out of court if the cost of the trial becomes too expensive. After listening to the above YouTube video...do you think the two songs sound alike?Source: AP
