Kraftwerk- The Early Years.

Posted over 4 years ago
While Kraftwerk is more or less known for helping to pioneer electronic music, their earlier years are also worth noting for their more rock sounding collaborations. The push towards a more electronic sound didn’t really start full swing until their second album, and their earlier live performances (circa 1970 / 71) were more or less jam sessions. Florian Schneider, who played everything from Synthesizers to the flute, was pretty much the one who helped push them in the direction they’re famous for. (Although Ralf Hütter also played a fundamental role as well)This version of Heavy Metal Kids comes from a 1971 performance they did with Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger, who would later go on to form Neu! Of course a few years later, this incarnation of Kraftwerk had all but faded, and they eventually found their own sound.

  1. brittanybf says i'm a kraftwerk dummy, and the first time i heard of them was when the beastie boys mentioned them in an interview. as your post discusses the phases that kraftwerk went through as a band, i can see how they would influence the beasties. thanks for sharing the cool video.
