Who doesn't like the warm and fuzzies?

Posted over 5 years ago
A local Chicago band I've had the pleasure of watching grow over the past few years is this awesome psychedelic rock band called The Saturday Nights. There is nothing in this city right now anything like them. Full of melodies and harmonies, the music’s warm and emotional reach create peaks and valleys giving you the warm and fuzzies all over. There latest album, Queenslandicus, is a stellar effort that showcases their well crafted songwriting. Definitely worth checking out. Here is a pretty professional video clip off their website.http://www.thewarmth.com/tsn-downloads.html There are three tracks and an interview on their myspace page. IMHO, Julianna is the track of choice. http://www.thewarmth.com/mp3s/tsn_mp3s/Stranded.mp3http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=2744207

  1. freeamanda says WAAAAAH! I miss the Double Door (went to Common's "Like Water for Chocolate" album release party there- in '99 or 2000?), and the Chicago bands. Thanks for reminding me! I used to see four shows a week or so all through undergrad: Metro, Aragon, Double Door, Red Dog, etc. etc. etc. It's just not the same out here in the pacific NW. If you get a chance to see Tortoise or Dismemberment Plan (oh wait, they're done!!!) on a Tuesday just scream a little for me!

  2. PPS13 says I have a friend who went to Bastyer who would gripe about how the NW was a very differnet exprience than her time in Chicago. She's into hip-hop, funk, and R&B so it would be safe to say it wasn't the best musical experience for her. I've been out there a few times, once for Bumpershoot 04, and caught Common, De La Soul, and The Black Eyed Peas...Aesop Rock and Murs.. So where to you get your undergrad at? What neighborhood did you reside? So I'm mad jelous that you are in the PacificNW...I'm very fond.

  3. freeamanda says I went to Northwestern so I lived north of town, in Evanston. The purple line was my beloved connection to town. I mean, I love the NW and plan to be here for a long time, but I really miss the music presence in Chicago. I would say its central location really helps it out! Even Portland, which has great music, can't touch Chicago- people just don't make it out here as much. Chicago shines with its connection to hiphop, jazz, soul, indie, and as the home of house it will always have various awesome djs (many of the best aren't house djs, which is nice for the sake of a break beat). Yep, I'll always hold seeing Bjork, Janes Addiction, Luna, Morphine, Ben Folds, Ani, Dj Funk, Jesse de la Pena, Dj Shadow, Tortoise, and sooooo many more at those small venues. It was a good time!

  5. Chuckers says I saw PE and Anthrax in Oakland with the famed Oakland Hill Fires burning ash was falling through out the parking lot. You could smell the smoke and see the flames as a whole afflunent neighborhood burned to the ground. After the fire we skated 4 backyard pools liberated of the weight of their water used to fight the fire. That night felt like a rebellion.
