The Best gig I have ever been too

Artist:
Saw Buddy last night in Manchester and I can safely see it was the most incredible and soulful performance I have ever experienced. I've seen him many times but last night he was on a whole nutha level again using the incredible acoustics of the symhony hall to draw every last ounce of tone from his guitar.

The only live performance I've ever seen him in is the Festival Express film that came out several years ago featuring footage from 1971. That guy was/is phenomenal! Glad you had a great time... So would you recommend I go and see him next time around, then? Even if I'm unfamiliar with his music?
Absolutely and totally unconditionally yes. He is a living legend and the still the best performer in the business
I saw Buddy 5 or 6 years ago live and have to say, although I was there to see Los Lobos(who he opened for), I was majorly impressed with his performance. I think he should have been the main act & Los Lobos open for him, even though LL put on an excellent show too. What an entertainer! He was funny, witty & mesmerizing to watch & I'm not that into blues but I'm not opposed to enjoying/appreciating a great entertainer perform when I see one.
It doesn't matter what your musical preference is you KNOW when you're in the presence of greatness. Jimi cretainly did...thats him in the cntre of the front row with a tape recorder in his hand

I agree wholeheartedly P-theory. I know excellent musicianship/talent wherever it rears it's head.
Review I did for another sight....
Buddy Guy at the Bridgewater Hall Manchester
The Bridgewater Hall is a symphony concert hall and has incredible acoustics although it is obviously all seated. P-Funk played there a few years ago but it just didn't work for them.
Buddy was the best I have ever seen him (or anybody else for that matter). He played with such subtlety and dynamic it was incredible, as well as doing his absolute balls out stuff but even that was restrained and played to absolute perfection.
I have never seen before and probably never will again such a display of absolute genius in the flesh. Only a four piece band behind him but they were all locked in perfectly. But every eye in the place was only on one man. Buddy is 71 years old and his performance was passionate and envigorating than anything I have experienced before.
He sang his heart out his voice never sounded better but he used the venue and its sound to take the audience through a full history of the blues and his involvement in its development all along the way.
He also pulled every performance trick in the book out of the bag such as playing behind his head, between his legs, with his teeth, playing with his right hand as the fret hand over the top of the neck, walking through all levels of the audience at four different layers in a concert hall whilst picking out individual members of the audience to wow, playing in the street, playing on his knees, playing whilst hanging upside down, playing the 2nd guitarists left hand notes (on his guitar) whilst the other guy played the right hand etc etc.
But as I said it wasn't just about flash and pyro technics it was the complete opposite and was of the most tender and soulful performance ever.
This is great news. I just picked up tickets for the Aug 17th show in Boston. I was wondering how he plays now that hes getting older, but after reading your reviews I'm even more psyched to see him.
