"Two rare appearances by The Paper Chase were chill inducing and awe inspiring. Hurry Up Shotgun drummer Adam Kayne called it " Edgar Allan Poe rock." Referring of course to John Congleton's unmatched lyrics and the reluctant nature of their live performance. The Paper Chase are one of those bands that you either never have heard of or love and hail as hands down one of the smartest bands of the last ten years. They are the rare band that actually creates music rather than merely pay homage to heroes. It can be sparse. It can be a beautiful tragedy. It can be very nerve racking. Congleton's guitar playing is as ingenious as his lyrics. Each member brings their own brilliance. There is at the same time an air of contempt and leary acceptance of the audience as if they are trying to filter through the truth of participation and understanding....."
