You Can't Go Home Again

It is hard to be my age and not have loved certain albums. Being 15 or 16 at the time some albums were inescapable...The Stranger, Rumours, Boston, Frampton Comes Alive, Bat Out Of Hell. If you are older or younger than I am you may not have a fond place in your musical heart for these huge hit albums, but I do. Still love 'em. Always will. However seeing some of these artists today can be a bit of a bummer. Case in point...Meat Loaf last night.I was very iffy on seeing Meat Loaf after all these years. Last time I went was 1978 at the Nassau Coliseum in 11th grade! I should have listened to my inner critic. The show was more bloated than Meat Loaf. Way too many tracks from the other CD's and not nearly enough from Bat 1. Come on, no All Reved Up! And for an encore Black Betty and Gimmie Shelter??? For others there the show must have been amazing because the crowd reaction was very good. For me the one album is the whole experience. It was his turn to catch lightning in a bottle. It was like that for many other artists of that period, Boston especially comes to mind. I've been "that guy" for so long when it comes to music that I sometimes forget all the things I say to other people. Artists like Meat Loaf are not the Stones or Springsteen, but they can once in a while make a really good record. Enjoy it for what it is and don't read too much into it.So here's a vintage promo clip for Bat Out Of Hell. Enjoy!

  3. deadmandeadman says Music speaks to the heart. Enjoy what you enjoy & apologize to no one. To me, **Meatloaf** was a one trick pony. The first one still gets play here in the crypt, but subsequent attempts don't make it. (for me, of course). But if we all liked the same things what a boring world it would be.

  4. OldRockr1 says I'm glad it still works for you Rocket. I played Bat in the car the other day, still sounds great. Went to the Eagles a few nights back...super show. I have been reading Bob Lefsetz a lot as of late, and he really hits it on the head. It meant something back then. Not to all, but to each of us as individuals. This morning's post was about Bob Seger's Live Bullet. Another amazing album that I will always love. Saw Bob last year at the Garden. Still a great show, still a great voice. Meat Loaf, Boston, Frampton...maybe only 1 album from each really stick for me, but what albums they are!
