WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

Meet Glen Campbell

Posted about 1 year ago

Ok, so this is a surprise. I grabbed this from Zinhoff's site a month ago and have been waiting for the actual CD. These mp3 blogs are great for previewing new CD's. I likethe try before your buy idea. And real hard copies are so much better than crappy mp3's.

So how does glen Campbell sound covering Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Foo Fighters, U2, Green day??? Actually he sounds very much like Glen Campbell of 40 years ago. This recording is not so much about modernizing his sound as it is finally providing some decent songs for him to sing. And at 72 he can still sing. Quite well actually.

Check out These Days, it would sound great right after Wichita Lineman or Galeveston. I don't think this will do for him what the Rick Rubin cd's did for Johnny Cash. This is merely a record featuring a great singer singing some really good songs. This is not one for the kids, but at 46 I have to admit that it really sounds great to me.

Go buy it...

I bet he'd have a good biography to tell if he wanted to be honest and not just 'life's been good to me'. The guy I worked next to at EMI handled PR for Glen in the UK and had some really funny stories.

Did he arrange the section behind him? I was never a Campbell fan but this sounds lush in the best early 70s LA Terry Melcher fashion.

I only own one Campbell CD - kind of. A "reunion" CD with Jimmy Webb which has some nice tunes. I like this, and might buy it. If and when you get it, please post some more to help me make up my mind.
