Ratdog & Allman Brothers - Jones Beach

Posted over 3 years ago

Compared to last year, it was a gorgeous night at Jones Beach for the Ratdog / Brothers double bill. Ratdog gets to go on first but play an almost full two hour set. The Brothers headline and play for a little over 2 hours.

Ratdog was really good. I like the jazzy vibe that they bring and in fact I am digging it moer than Phil & Friends these days. Phil needs new friends, but that is a different post. I am really looking forward to the Westbury shows in October.

The allman Brothers were a different issue. Gregg has not fully recovered from his Hep C outbreak and was not in good form. Looked and sounded awful. This turned the show into the Warren and Derek show. Don't get me wrong, I love them both. I have been a big Mule guy since 1996. It is just that this is not what the Brothers should sound like to me. Too much meandering. Warren plays very different when with the ABB compared to the Mule. Just not great. In fact I have to admit I have been down on this line up for a few years now. I guess I miss Dickey. He always provided a great counter balance to Gregg. I guess what I am saying is it was all a bit boring.

Check out Ratdog performing peggy-O. Really sweet.
