WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Squeeze - Westbury 8-7-07

Chris Difford and Glen Tillbrook made impeccable pop music with Squeeze. I always enjoyed them back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Really tight tunes with a great pop sensibility. Pulling Muscles From A Shell, Another Nail In My Heart, Tempted, Black Coffee in Bed. They had a string of really, really great tunes. I kind of lost track as the 80’s moved into the 90’s. A few years back I saw Glen Tillbrook at the Downtown in Farmingdale. It was just him and an acoustic guitar. Guess what? The songs held up really well over the past 20 or so years. I guess good pop music; really good pop music is timeless. So I was really quite anticipating the current reunion tour. No Jools Holland, but I guess you can’t have everything. So was the show any good? Yup, most definitely. Squeeze played all the hits you wanted from their prime time years as well as a bunch of other songs over the course of the 100 minute show. Really good crowd that was very into it. I heartily recommend seeing them if they are getting to your area during this pretty short US tour. It had been about 25 years since the last time I saw Squeeze (1982 with a very young REM as the opener) and that is far too long when they make pop this good. Here’s a track from a Difford & Tillbrook appearance in the UK last month. Enjoy!
