WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Look-Ka Py Py is the only New Orleans music I own

Posted over 2 years ago
I am moving to New Orleans in a few weeks. I think I saw, on CodyB's page, a best of New Orleans 101. Anyone have a few incisive recommendations for me knowing what little you do about my tastes based on recent Mogging. I feel uncomfortably ignorant.

  2. Hermes says I've never been in the States, what implies, that I neither have been in New Orleans ;). And compared to Cody I have no idea of the music of that town. And I don't know your music taste well. But I have a CD of the New Orleans Nightcrawlers, which is a brass band. I like it a lot, but to which I didn't listen for a very long time. I use your post as a trigger to listen to it again and will post one or two songs afterwards. Then you can judge if you like it or not.

  3. Cody B says Wow, good luck in your new digs Dr. John-"Gris-Gris":http://mog.com/Cody_B/blog_post/55001 or Gumbo Professor Longhair-Rock N'Roll Gumbo Then I'd check out the New Orleans Party Classic Series on Rhino for some more Ideas.. The bands/album/records listed on the 101 create a excellent starting point. There is just too much music coming out of NOLA in too many genres to really narrow it down, The P. Longhair record gives you well recorded versions of NOLA staples, and if you had to have 1, that might be the one.
