Peek Inside The World Of The Blues Explosion

Posted over 2 years ago
A little Mog love for the JSBX. This is quite representative of their early punkish groove-blues style, complete with unintelligible lyrics. In the end you get what they were trying to say, pretty much nothing except that their lives are pretty cool. What a great drummer!

  1. Augusts1 says Cool song. You're right about the unintelligible lyrics, lol. Wouldn't it be JSBE instead of JSBX(Or is that how they do it?) Heard of them but hadn't heard them, so thanks.

  3. Oatmeal says Augustus: I think someone else referred to them as JSBX in a mag back in the day and I just liked it. Rawk: I think I know what you are saying, I don't follow them anymore but I think they put together a couple of strong albums. This one, Extra Width, is actually a little weak.

  4. Augusts1 says Ok, thanx I just had to know, heh! Btw, you can just call me August. I renamed myself so it's just August, not Augustus, Augusto or Augustine. But if you want to call me that I won't mind. Just a FYI, heh.

  5. Oatmeal says Haha, I think I just watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory too many times. Augustus was of course the fat kid that was sucked up the tube. Leaves an impression which then skewed my reading of your alias. Sorry August. It is a good song, I have never heard the original but I doubt it sounds much like this one.

  6. Oatmeal says OKay I gotta get to bed, I thought this comment was on the Yo La Tengo post. All mixed up.

  7. Augusts1 says Hey, I just watched that Friday night & own it, I love it so much. Just love Tim Burton's movies & Johnny Depp in a Burton film makes it all that much better! Yes Augustus Gloop was the fat kid. My mog name is my first name, my last initial and the #1. Not heard the original song either. G'night!

  8. ZZTodd says love me some JSPX. yes, sometimes they get a little repetitive, but at the end of the day its all good

  9. moovyphreak says As for JSPX, I've heard of them before, but don't recollect ever having heard their music before. It's okay, but I would hope they're a little more musical in their other tunes, though I will agree that the drumming is energetic. As for the discussion of Augustus Gloop, I feel that the original film, CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (even though it was less faithful to the source material) is a more wholly rewarding film. Plus, it's hard to get the Oompa-Loompa tunes out of your head.

  10. mattjamcr says if i'm not mistaken they covered some old blues song in the documentary martin scorcese presents the blues. some pretty intense stuff

  11. Oatmeal says They definitely have a more legit blues sound on other recordings, but it tends towards high energy still with the drumming. Musicality is in there too, this song maybe is not as representative as I first thought, they are very influenced by hip hop though. BTW- I think the original is superior as well Moovy! Matt- I never saw that movie, but they played with some old blues names on their Now I Got Worry LP. Doopity dooo

  12. Hermes says That's pretty raw stuff. But "some ... like it raw". How sang that? (The "..." is what i forgot) However, cool post. I'll watch out for this.

  13. Wade says Love the Blues Explosion. They are (were?) one of those bands that no one could really figure out (including me), critics and fans alike but that's a good thing. Now I got Worry is my favorite. check out http://mog.com/Wade/blog_post/50034 for a Wail video I remember John Spencer did a Gap commercial one christmas, that was bizarre

  14. Oatmeal says yeah, I felt like the commercial treatment of the band did not do them justice. They were marketed as kind of gimmicky later on, but ...Worry was a real punk/blues thriller. I saw them live once and loved 'em.
