For Dub and Reggae Lovers, a question...

Posted almost 5 years ago
I love this dub. It is from a "Heptones Studio 1":http://www.roots-archives.com/release/53 compilation that I bought in Jamaica. Can someone tell me the name of the original song and the artist credited with singing the full vocal track. I must know.

  1. soulrocket says a dub is a stripped version of a vocal/instrumental song. that album looks like a bootleg copy made in jamaica, which is a pretty usual practise. a lot of the times the cover master is taken from the cd cover & the barcode looks giant. lately is being a rumour that most of collectables bought in jamaica have been previously bootlegged. oh, well...

  2. Oatmeal says Right on. I just love the little disco depth charge sound in the dub, makes me think of roller skating.

  3. soulrocket says my fave roller skating dub albums could be augustus pablo - dubbing with the don, v.a. - version dread, 18 dub hits from studio one & upsetters - blackboard jungle dub. I believe all them are still available on wax.

  4. Oatmeal says I will have to check those out. I have been pretty into dub for 3-4 years now, but I am not enough of a roots reggae head to know all the originals. I have some Augustus and a lot of Lee Perry/Upsetters, but never heard those specific selections. Thanks.

  5. Baudolino says It might be worth remembering that the Heptones cut two entirely different versuions of "Ting A Ling" on Studio One - this is the second cut, with the Sound Dimension led by Jackie Mittoo p[roviding the riddim, round about 1969. The other track has been dubbed as "Theme A Ling" and "King A Thing", and doesn't feature a lead organ. Overdubs here are by the Brentford Rockers from round about 1978-79 Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace - drums Errol "Bagga" Walker - bass Soljie Hamilton- syndrums
