WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Spiritual for the Night Owl

Posted about 1 year ago

Going to take the quiet walk out of school here in a moment and smell the late night New Orleans fragrances and look up at the moon. Should be a good time.

I am jealous, but I'll be there come Carnival time. (And that number is, as ever, a beauty...)

This cut is just superlative, so quietly powerful. It has been a staple of my mixtapes for years. In fact, I once made the huge mistake of including it on a mix I made for a friend whose mother had died several months before. He told me later that he had been able up to that point to hold himself together, but just bawled for a half-hour when he heard it. You can see why....

any other gospels classics that you tend to throw on mixes that I should know about?

One other that never fails: "My God Can Do Anything" by Luther Barnes and the Red Budd Gospel Choir. It's a quintessential hand-waving, foot-stomping surge of adrenaline.
