Hip Hop Thursday Interlude: When Rhyming Gets In The Way

Posted almost 2 years ago

The interlude, perhaps a thing of the past and often confused with the skit, can be a thing of sweet and fleeting pleasure. DJ Premier and DJ Muggs come to mind.

Others made a name by combining the more eccentric sampling that was acceptable in a mere interlude with a bit of humor. Some like Prince Paul just threw convention out the window and basically made entire albums of skits and interludes. (as experienced through his landmark work for/with De La Soul)

With track by track sales..the interlude and skit may be doomed..Prince Paul started it all though as a de riguer thing.

I agree Cody. But they live on in my mix tapes.

Kevin, I always liked how they gave a bit of theater to the hip hop album and stopped you up to think about the music alone.
