I actually go see a show. Tomorrow night, my dad, brother and I are seeing the Heartless Bastards and headliner Wilco, in a theater I used to work at as a union stagehand. Should be interesting all around: good bands, good company, and a familiar venue.
In fact the last time I saw Wilco was also in Cincinnati at the semiannual riverboat and river music festival Tall Stacks. Wilco just played Jazzfest last month and someone wrote a review down there stating that those guys are usually better in an outdoor venue. I guess we will see, I have high expectations after that 2006 show when they thrilled a pretty large crowd that October evening as stern wheel boats illuminated the Ohio River behind the stage. A familiar favorite...
As for the Heartless Bastards, they are a Cincinnati band that relocated to Austin. But Erika used to bar tend right down the street from my mom's place in the Northside neighborhood, and so there are mutual friends shared. It is nice to see her and the new lineup getting some continued exposure. I will report.
