FF: Lee Dorsey

Posted over 4 years ago
It has been a while since I posted on Funky Friday so here is a New Orleans treat. Lee Dorsey singing a Allen Toussaint produced and written song. The funky tracking is The Meters, as aranged by Toussaint. Let the music take your mind, and your funky ass.

  1. Dzendvokh says Hey man, It has been a while. We're in the same vein for FF. Too bad, that when I start to become fully addicted to Mog, you have to do your thing, which means no Mogging for Oats. I mean, school and family's gotta be bustin your ass. Well, it's not too bad, you know what I mean though. Franny and I are talking about a trip touring the south next summer. We would love to make it down there. Its just talk now, but it may turn into something more. The Meters slay..... Nice selection Sir Oatmeal. You know I make that every morning for the kids, I'm so sick of it, and I don't even eat it.

  2. Oatmeal says Yeah, funny thing is I am a cereal with milk kind of guy. Down to the last month before exams and it is most definitely kicking my ass. Went into law school thinking, "Just how kick ass am I going to be." But now I am thinking, "I don't want to seem totally incompetent on these damn tests." I am sure it will be somewhere in between in the end. Come on down, my Spring semester should be slightly less of a grind. We did the trick-or-treat in the garden district where everyone is living good. We went door to door and everyone was giving the kids candy and taking orders and pouring drinks for the parents. I have never seen anything like it, hilarious. Total strangers just putting out wine and liquor for random enjoyment.

  3. Dzendvokh says That sounds like my kind of halloween. I can't even imagine having to spend all that time on school at this point. I hope your still feelin the drive to do it. Alright, I'll talk to Franny more seriously about a trip. Probably start in Cincy and hit a number of friends and relatives on the way.

  4. Cody B says Well, I don't mean to barge in on your private conversation, but I had to just say that that, that song is funky indeed. Halloween in NOLA, I could believe that would be fun(ky) as well..OK, go on back to what y'all we're doin'

  9. ivylander says The timing of this is uncanny - last night I saw Allen Toussaint play solo (yep, he did this one) and afterward made one of those notes to self: Must have more Lee Dorsey. This post is some kind of sign.....

  10. Oatmeal says I love it, a sage moment from the love of funk. Must have been a great show. I read that he has remained in NY since the storm.

  11. ivylander says It was unbelievable. He also made a point of saying, between songs, "I was born in New Orleans, was raised in New Orleans, and will die in New Orleans." You'll be seeing him around....Also on the bill was another NO native Henry Butler, who had the most remarkable chops of any pianist I've ever seen....
