The title of this post is something that P.O.S. said before Minus The Bear got on stage at the Tripple Rock friday night.
So one thing is these guys rock to begin with. I had no idea what there live show was going to be like. I have really only been to harder rock concerts. Minus The Bears music is more of a relaxed energy music. Energetic but from a diferent direction. Not really of a "man I want to run up a wall" nature. They were probably one of the tightest sets I have seen. I have seen some great shit too. I have seen the likes of Mastodon, Wolfmother, Coheed And Cambria, and Circa Survive just to name a few and all of those shows have been pretty freaking solid shows. These guys couldn't have sounded more like there albums if they played the actual cd's themselves. Now I am not a fan when a band does that. I feel I could have been at home and listened to the cd instead, but these guys thouroughly represented. It was a lot of fun watching them. I supposed that I am a tad biased because you could say that they are one of my top ten fav. bands. But I am giving them a fair account of the evening. Just a unbiased review with highlights as to how I enjoyed the evening. They get on stage to set up and I catch a glimpse of there pedal boards. They were freaking huge. They were at least 4 or 5 feet long. The lead guitarist (ex Botch guitarist) Dave Knutson's board had 4 giant four switch loop pedals. The singers plus rythem guitarist's board had 2 of them. It was crazy. Before select (most) songs they would record random notes and chords into the pedals, while they were tuning. During the song they would basically play Dance Dance Revolution while playing with all there crazy ass hammer on's and techincals. Very Enjoyable to watch! Dave Represented hardcore, as well as there drummer. He was super tight too. Every fill and every bell and every freaking time signature switch he was fucking on his game. They played a very wide varitety of there library. They also played for a long time. It was deffinatly bearable. They played about 4 songs off of Highly Refined Pirates, 2 songs off of This Is What I Know About Being Gigantic, 2 off of They Make Beer Commercials Like This, 1 Off of Bands Like It When You Yell Yar At Them, 5 or 6 off of Menos El Oso, plus 3 new tracks off of there new full length release called Planet Of Ice. They then got off stage and suprise came on again to play a 2 song encore, ending the show at the 1:00am mark. For the encore they played Pachuca Sunrise and Hey, Wanna Throw Up? Get Me Naked. A great ending to a perfect show. I was very tempted to drive to Fargo for the next show, it would be well worth it. I would have liked it if they would have played Lemurs Man, Lemurs. but they didn't. All in all it was a solid evening. Chin Up Chin Up opened. Great set, picked up there self titled ep (will investigate more when I get more money). They sounded like a mellower Minus The Bear with the singer from The Hold Steady fronting. Then rapper P.O.S. did a special "Guest" set. Which I also enjoyed. Followed by Minus The Bear. I was happy when I left. Ill leave you with Lemurs, because I wanted to listen to it.
