She was born in West London (in 1980, after which her autobiographical first single was named). One of eight children, born to a Senegalese mother and a father from Grenada. One of the most respected British hip-hop artists in recent years, Estelle runs her own record label, Stellar Ents and has released her own material through this - including the two "Da Heat" mixtapes Part 1 and 2, the album The 18th Day and the singles "1980", "Free" and "Go Gone". She featured on Natasha Bedingfield's song "Drop Me In The Middle" for Natasha's USA release of Unwritten.
In 2005 Estelle revealed to great humour on the popular Sky Sports show "Soccer AM" that her birthname is actually "Fanta". . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estelle_(singer) . Filling in the gaps. No.116 http://mog.com/Neill/blog_post/29537

wow, go Neill, schooling us on hip-hop night. A female, and someone I was not familiar with. I dig it.

One of THE best Brit female Hip/Hop songs of the decade in my opinion Neill. Why the hell did we sell Lady Sovereign to America when we've got this ?
Brilliant record (and I say brilliant very rarely)

Wow, I was just wondering the other day about Estelle. I saw her perform about 3 years ago at some new media awards night. When she hit the stage everyone kept doing their 'me-me-me' spiel so she just grabbed 'em by the scruff of their collective neck and gave 'em a good shake. I'd never heard of her but reckoned with that ability we were going to hear a lot more. Wonderful track.

Thanks, Neill. I've never heard of her before, I fancy!
