I rather like her. Cheers, Neill.

never mind young girls, she can adorn my bedroom wall anytime...

P.L.T. pretty little thing. AWWWWWWWWW

Wow. I think she has far more soul in her left pinky than Dusty Springfield ever had in her entire body! Thanks for including the live clip of her singing since the recorded song doesn't do her talent justice.

Cheers for this. She's certainly a s 60s throwback but I agree with Augusts1, the video clip is great. Rockferry didn't grab me as a song -- not into voices sans tunes. But defo one to watch (and I mean her music, PLT fans!)

Thanks for this; I will give her more a listen. Actually it's an honor to be compared the Dusty Springfield. Those who think she lacks soul must not be familiar with her repertoire, much less her reputation. Check out Dusty in Memphis, for example. And dustyspringfield.info. Cheers.

allherfaces Just for the record I didn't say Dusty lacked soul, I've heard Dusty In Memphis so I do know that she has soul. It's just that this woman Duffy has far more soul to spare.

Don't get me wrong here ( I think the Dusty and 60's comparisons are apt and the sound is sensual, too) and I really like both singers, but I don't think it's soul at all. Very good pop, but not soul. I got a Neko Case vibe, too. Thanks for posting, she's going on the list.

I agree Cody, it is pop! My reference to soul is the fact that Duffy has that bluesy ballsy ability to really cut loose & belt it out, letting the emotions really come out. That's my definition of a singer who has soul.

Fair enough A1, I see where you are coming from...I never liked Dusty in Memphis 'til I could get over the fact that people kept telling it me that it was a great soul record. When I looked at it as a pop piece, I get the sensual daring quality of the record, especially in the context of it's time. Plus the production is mint. It's all semiotics..I liked Duffy and Dusty..that's what matters most, they sound good no matter how you classify 'em. Cheers

Although she has played a few gigs, Rockferry will be her first release. Rough Trade are having major problems finding her that killer song.....but I don't think this will be it. You only have to hear her rehearsing in the video above to realize she could be massive.

Respectfully, DIM is just one example. Have you heard Madeline Bell's comments on Dusty or Martha Reeves'...or Jerry Wexler's? I take nothing away from Duffy and wish her well, and I follow with interest every new singer who has been compared to Dusty in one way or another (Joss Stone and Amy Wineshouse, for two examples).
I just don't think that praise of Duffy must include a comparison that makes Dusty sound somehow less than. Enough said, however. I don't want to highjack this thread, Just had the give the lady her props.
