.Happy Mondays - Brighton Pier- = In the Blood - JellybeanObituaries of the Happy Mondays and Shaun Ryder where surely being prepped, but the surreal poet of Madchester isn’t quite dead yet. His superb contribution to the 2005 Gorillaz hit DARE was proof of that. All the same, the mere arrival of this, the first Happy Mondays album in 15 years, is a shock. That the belated sequel to 1992’s cataclysmic Yes Please! Should be any good isn’t far short of a miracle..Having apparently replaced the opiates with ‘exercise and Hail Marys’, Ryder has slimmed down his band to Bez and drummer Gaz Whelan, and found a sympathetic collaborator in hip-hop producer Sunny D Levine. .While Ryder’s vocals remain gloriously sloppy, the music has never been tighter, coloured with slide guitars and crunchy powerchords. .• Jellybean • Angels And Whores • Deviants • Rats With Wings • Cuntry Disco • In The Blood • Anti Warhole On The Dancefloor • Rush Rush • Uncle Dysfunktional • Dr. Dick • Weather ..Thanks to Rob Fearn @ Q
