Joy Division Documentary...

Posted over 3 years ago

Saw the documentary a few months ago and watched it again last night, now that it has been released on DVD. Pretty good and funny, but does not tell you anything you won't know if you have read the books;

    Thanks for posting this ..i should get the DVD..I love listening to Tony Wilson.(.we've still got Paul Morley of course.) Did you enjoy "Control"? Do you remember Joy Divisions' appearance on a saturday afternoon "teen" programme ,along with "the Jam"?  1979 i think. I cannot find any video of it  I remember they did "She's lost control" ,not sure what the other song was,maybe "Transmission"  "The Jam" ended with "Eton Rifles" and i think that is around somewhere...

    When I checked a couple of days ago PLAY.COM was the cheapest retailer selling this at £12.99 inc P&P

    I've seen these clips so often now I'm not sure if I did see them live or not. 78/79; I was spending a lot of time in the North West, originally coming from Liverpool and having a girlfriend from Accrington, so I may have seen it live....

    I saw Joy Division live once supporting The Stranglers at The Rainbow in London in 1980. I still have the program!

    Still haven't watched that....nor have I read all the books. I'm a bad fan. No no! Not bad....just a distracted one.

    awesome post, I was not aware of the documentary.  The film Control was good as well, and told somewhat from the perspective of his wife.

    @chiristheskins, not sure if this is the video you were talking about, but it's vintage clip of the band doing Transmision, and tears it up:

    Is it a better experience than last year's movie Control? In that I thought Curtis came across like a spoilt brat caught up in a really boring love triangle. There's more to him than that, surely! Funnily enough I had liked the book by his wife on which it was based.

    To Flux;

    Not really, I kind of agree with your assessment of Control, but I have never been able to understand suicide. Things are never THAT bad in our Safe European Home!
