Memo to myself; USE YOUR HI-FI !!!

Artist:

Like a lot of people, when I get a CD these days, I stick it into the computer and transfer it onto my mp3 player, then listen to it while online or on my daily commute.
Recently I've got some Cd's which I thought where OK but nothing special until I fired up my HiFi system yesterday and had a listen to Primal Screams 'Beautiful Future'. It sounded fantastic!
Now I haven't got some tricked out, top of the range system; Arcam Cd player, Pioneer Amp and MA speakers, around $1500 worth but it reproducers bass; lots of bass! The sort of Bass your crappy little computer speakers or Mp3 players earbuds can only dream of.
So go and wipe the dust off that system sitting in the corner of the room and have another listen, you may be surprised if you haven't used it in a while.

I always give a listen to a new cd with my Roland RH-200 headphones. The difference is huge. I know they look dorky and stupid, but the sound quality is so good....so yes, listen before you compress. I agree.
I'm with you 100%, but when my amp burnt out over a year ago, I couldn't find the other two amps I've accumulated! But a week ago I came across one of them and it's been beautiful ever since. Nothing sounds like a good speaker system pushing air.
This happens to me very often, so many things get lost when a song goes digital.
Invite me over for tea and bass!
What's a sound system? =P
good point!... but my Mac kicks through pair of Mackies & some DT770's, so it sounds shit hot anyway!
True dat, but I'll tell ya, I rather dug the Primal stream you posted, mp3 or not. Very late-period Roxy, like "Over You." I kinda missed these guys.
I am with ya, wont give a final say on a record until I hear it through my JBL's
LOL, i can relate completely. however, i've had to leave my nice "sound system" with my mother, who i don't think wants it as much as i do, to cross countries.
my MacBook can use the office's kick ass speakers via AirPort but the digital music coming from it just ain't the same as the one in the discs.
I know what you mean. I use Shure E3c headphones with my iPod Classic, which sound excellent, but there is nothing like firing up the old hifi and blasting out your favourites (generally when Kim and the kids are out!). Mine's an old Merdian, Roksan and Monitor Audio set up that gets heavy use as part of the home cinema, but rare outings for CD these days.
