Radio 1 goes mad for Cover Versions

Posted over 2 years ago
40 artists have recorded 40 cover versions specially for Radio 1 as part of Radio 1 Established 1967. Over the next 2 weeks you can hear some of the biggest names in music exclusively covering a song from the past 40 years that Radio 1 has been on air. Some of the artists involved include Hard-Fi, Girls Aloud, Razorlight, The Streets, Kasabian, Mika, Kylie, Foo Fighters, Amy Winehouse, and Robbie Williams. Each artist was given a different year, and asked to record a track that was a Top 20 hit in that particular year. Some of them remained true to the original version, and others reinterpreted it.1996 ‘No Diggity’ by Blackstreet Covered by Klaxons You can see the full list here;http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/established1967/feature/40artists.shtml.

  1. Anna says Great idea. Too many unexpected covers to list (like Hard-Fi covering Spears' Toxic) and many I can't wait to listen to (Editors covering Cure's Lullaby OMG!). The Klaxons' one is so and so. Will the release a CD maybe?

  2. Dale says I'm with Anna; Editors covering "Lullaby" would PWN ALL, but the Klaxons song leaves me cold. Then again, I blame the source material.

  3. Neill says I heard the Foo Fighters doing Wings, Band on the Run yesterday. Good. I'm with you on the Klaxons, but it was the only listed cover I could find on the net....

  4. SA says Oh, this is going to be fun! Some very funny things on there (well, at least fun on paper. ;)) How about Groove Armada + Alan Donahue (The Rakes) doing "Crazy for You" by Madonna? And could stuff get wider apart than "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate and the Stereophonics, who are going to cover it? Oh, now I remember where I read this (it already sounded so familiar, but couldn't put my finger on it), I read this in the Franz Ferdinand blog where they talked about doing Bowie yeah. Some are going to be awful though, but it's good fun this is. :)
