Naming your band after an animal seems like the way to go. But why the sleepy little chubby Australian marsupial? The Wombats, that is, are a British band from Liverpool made up of two Englishmen and a Norwegian. Ranging influences from Hefner, Depeche Mode to Architecture In Helsinki, they draw comparisons to We Are Scientists. It's cheesy pop rock that makes you grin, call it a guilty pleasure, they make some tunes that get stuck in your head. Especially with their satirical new single "Let's Dance To Joy Division". If the title isn't enough, the lyrics say it all. Let's dance to Joy Division / And celebrate the irony / Everything is going wrong / But we're so happy / So let the love tear us apart / I found a cure for a broken heart. Their songs contain some sweet harmonies, but despite their band name, mean some serious (but satirical) business even it means songs about a fictional goats with drug issues or calling each other animals. Let's Dance To Joy Division is their new single for the upcoming album yet to be released on October 28th via label 14th Floor.(Off The Record)
