Reading 2007 3 Day Festival

Posted over 2 years ago
So…3 days at Reading; Although I live in London, it’s a easy commute for me, less than a hour each way. Some of the camping areas where a bit damp, but the main arena was dry and sunny for all three days.Friday;Sparta Who? Can’t remember a single thing about them and I was sober then….Blood Red Shoes Boy plays drums. Girl plays guitar and sings, LOUDLY!The Horrors LOL!..with some surprisingly good tunes. The Enemy this is the future? Don’t get this punk lite. Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly! as far away as possible. After 3 ‘songs’ lets run to the Main Stage to see;Maximo Park Good, solid, crowd pleasing sing along tunes as usual… Interpol Strangely subdued with the sun setting in their eyes.Kings Of Leon Time for another sing-a-long..now, back to the bar. £3.30 for a pint of Carling! Oh, you get 10p back when you bring back the empty cup. Cue; loads of skint kids running around trying to collect 33 cups for a free pint. NO, I HAVEN’T FINISHED! NOW FUCK OFF!Saturday;Brakes The usual slew of 2 minute tunes. Excellent.Noisettes Too screechy for me…Good Shoes Good, but left half way through to run to the Carling tent to see;Mute Math Did we really fight the punk wars to return to this prog rock bollocks?Run to the Dance Stage to see; Shy Child Fun, jiggy, dance/rock.Run back to the packed NME stage to see;The Pigeon Detectives Brilliant, bouncy, new wave pop!Back to the Carling Stage to see the frankly disappointing Shiny Toy GunsAfter a few pints and burgers a stroll down to the main stage to catch the end ofBloc Party (Sounding a bit dated now to me!) and then the fantastic Arcade Fire kicking off just as the sun was setting. Religious? Oh yes.Back to the Carling Stage to see Battles who where very enjoyable. So why does the drummer have one cymbal 6ft in the air?Back to a half empty NME stage to see We Are Scientists Well I enjoyed them although there was to much talking between tracks.Time for bed….Sunday;Arrrh, got on site later than expected and missed I Was A Cub Scout sulked for a bit then cheered up watching the rather amusing Hadouken! at the NME stage. Things got even better when New Pony Club came on for some sweet, quirky pop. After wandering around for a bit squeezed back into a packed NME stage to see Maccabees, good, but not as energetic as I thought they where going to be…Watched Cold War Kids for a bit then went over to the Carling stage to see Maps, Kate Nash and Charlotte Hatherley. Good, good and OK….Back to the NME stage for the start of the party featuring; CSS, LCD Sound System and the now massive Klaxons who simply blew everyone else off stage although I was feeling a bit tired and emotional by then. Give me hug, and you give me a hug, and you give me a hug….Go home and sleep until 3pm…..http://honeymstd.multiply.com/photos/album/24/Reading_2007

  3. Max Load says Rather you than me, mate. Last time I went to Reading the Jam were headlining. "A bit damp"? I thought half the site was under water. You English and your understatement. :-)

  4. Neill says No, no, some of the camping areas where wet but the main arena was dry. The first day I went in boots, the next 2 days in trainers.

  5. Max Load says That's good. I saw a lot of people who were obviously on their way to Reading changing trains at Guildford last Thursday. Some of them looked seriously underprepared for the conditions I'd heard reported.

  11. Lizziegreeneyes says *BNF:* Never say *NEVER* (too old)... you just have to go to one in style... get a hotel room or BnB for the nights. Rejuvination for the days by getting a decent night's sleep. (I am all for camping - but not to wake to a FULL day of music) !!! : )
