I've Entered The Ono Zone Today... Part One
-
Artist:
Somehow I missed the fact that Yoko had res-erected the Plastic Ono Band last year. It's now called Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band. She And Sean are in the band along with Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto and Keigo "Cornelius" Oyamada, Yuko Araki and Hirotaka Shimmy Shimizu. She and Sean are churning out a lot of music in various forms these days and this is her main contribution. I'll have Sean's in Part Two.
Sean says, "Yoko unleashed a deluge of new songs, writing about 16 songs in 6 days, the most prolific day peaking out at 6 songs written and tracked in an afternoon. The recording session was like a tornado of inspiration. Some of the best lyrics on the record Yoko actually 'freestyled' as if she were a lyrical divining rod."

I usually can't stand to listen to her, but this latest work is more reserved than the caterwauling I recall from the old days. If you like avant-guard experimental music, give these cuts a try. Then, if you have MOG all access, you can listen to the whole CD.

Oh no, not Ono..That said. it had to be said. On the other hand these tracks aren't off the hook crazy or anything..not bad at all.
....As one who already has a short list of Yoko faves...
This ain't bad at all. But it makes me wanna dance. & That ain't good.
I much prefer the second of the two
Sorry but it is still Yoko to me. I can see how she got out 6 songs written and tracked in an afternoon.
This is actually listenable...not that sandpaper underwear srceeching she used to do...I have no Yoko OhNo favorites. These won't get a lot of replay for me but I like this experimental music..The engineers in the studio probably had more to do with the mixing and production than Yoko, but I could be wrong.
I'm still laughing at DMDM's post..."This ain't bad at all. But it makes me wanna dance. & That ain't good."
I'm not a Yoko fan, and if this is pretty good for her I probably never will be. Her voice makes me wanna chew tin foil!
Hahaha!! Yeah.
Well, I gave it a shot, Rex.
I'm not the biggest fan by a long shot, and not too into experimental music, but like DMDM, I didn't find it too grating. Definatley an acquired taste.
Hey, at least you aren't afraid to post. And in fairness, maybe I subconciously carry some bias....so maybe I am not really listening with completley "open ears"
I still like you, Rex.
Thanks Mark. There is still something about Yoko that continues to fascinates, even if I can barely stand most of her work (and that's being generous).
Check out Part Two- it's more along our tastes, I think.
