Yean, way out of character, but the song is now suddenly cooler! Now they can play high school dances if necessary?
An outlier like this may have its origins as fun at a sound check or something. I remember a hard rockin' LA band called Tzar that went through of a couple weeks where the bass amp kept shutting down right in the middle of a set. The lead singer improvised the first couple verses of "Cracklin' Rose," and the crowd egged him on. Next time I saw them, Neil Diamond had become an unlikely part of their repertoire!
