I had a great time playing in Austin. Ahmad-Jamal (my drummer) and I played the yearly "Pirate Elvis Party". We all had eye patches, fried peanut butter banana sandwiches (i didn't venture this, but there was a line!) and elvis glasses. Kitsch is fun when not in excess.... On this weeks Sunday Sampler- Sometimes it's good to get to your roots...and if you're American, it's nice to be reminded that your roots run deeper than multi-pattied burgers or NASCAR themed ballcaps. I'm talking gutsy, dusky roots Rock. so...ok...one of these bands is from Wales, and the others are from San Francisco, but these are the sounds born from the swamps, saloons, and dank venues of the heartland. Haven't been MOGging lately, sorry folks. First is was a nearly three-week long holiday road trip out to Arizona and Utah, and now I'm out at Sundance working a projecting gig and videoblogging from the festival. Last night, I got a chance to see Two Gallants for the first time. Really dug them. They were opening up for Silversun Pickups (I had to work, so I couldn't stick around for their set).
