Traffic Biography

Traffic appeared amidst the late-1960s psychedelic scene, and at its height the band was one of the most adventurous outfits around, although Traffic's unstable lineup made it an on-again, off-again affair by the '70s. Teenage wunderkind Stevie Winwood was the main man, but all the members made significant contributions. With a sound that combined influences from folk, rock, jazz, and soul, Traffic created something wonderfully of its time.

Sept 17th is Constitution Day. It was on this day in 1787 the founding fathers signed the Constitution into law. Now you may be asking yourself "What about July 4th, 1776?" July 4th 1776 is the day the Second Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence. Hence the name Independence Day. I was going to post about the 4th Amendment this evening but I won't. To those who have been following my posts on the Constitution and Sept 11th know where I stand on... MORE

Blog post image preview god bless little stevie winwood, god bless Traffic. i first heard this tune on the rarely heard live Traffic album, "welcome to the canteen", though i can't access that live cut for some reason(drat!). go find this old gem, it starts off bopping with this cut, features the lovely, "shouldn't have took more than you gave" and other dave mason led treats like "sad and deep as you" and "40,000 headman"( with reboop's great hand drumming) and ends with the monstrous two punch of ... Hypnotic bass lines

Blog post image preview Here are two of my favourite, hypnotic bass lines. One is sampled and used a lot, the other is rarely heard, and really should be used as the basis for something by someone soon (please). Walking in the Wind on When The Eagle Flies, Traffic's last album set a great mood. The bass is played by Rosko Gee. What a groove. The second is Stratus from Spectrum by Billy Cobham. After 2-3 minutes of drum solo and moog accompaniment, the song hits its stride. The bass... MORE

When we were kids my Sister and I would take old songs and make up our own words, is this some form of plagerism? Don't tell but here's one for Mog sung to the tune of You Can All Join In (listen at multiply)
(Please feel free to change the words to your liking, I won't tell.. ) "Here's a little mog you can all join in with,
it's very simple and I hope it's new.

Blog post image preview back around 1983, my crazy older brother ran away to hawaii. i kind of missed the daily torture, but he did leave me, a 15 year old with a hankering for all the music i could get my hands on, with a crazy ass stereo system and many hundreds of records he bought working at sam goody. (can you say "almost famous") so, i've got all these records around me and way too much time to do nothing but explore. i will never forget the first one i pulled out and listened to. i was ... MORE
