I started a Tom Waits covers channel and in the process discovered this recording I made last September that I considered a throwawy and never did anything with. Always planned to come back and do a better version but you know how that goes.....so I took the recording and made a video slideshow of photos from the 10/26/07 Bridge School show which was an awesome show. Hope you enjy the slideshow at least. The cover could be better but then again nobody can come close to... MORE

No lie. Tom Waits just released this important press conference in what appears to be designed as a video for youtube release, spread virally through the tentacles of the interweb....

You can never tell if Tom waits is drunk or not. During his latest press conference announcing a summer tour behind his new album Glitter And Doom, we're pretty sure he wasn't. Waits and his raspy voice kick off June 17th in Phoenix, AZ and the rest of the southern stops follow the constellation Hydra) (sorta). The guiding word of the tour, an anagram of each city that the tour stops in is PEHDTSCKJMBA . Say it with him... PEHDTSCKJMBA . Tom Waits tour dat... MORE

Somewhere…there’s a couple who started the growing tradition of assembling, burning and distributing mix CDs as keepsakes at weddings. So much for matchbooks as marriage mementos. The first wedding CD that I encountered was handed out about five years ago when my longtime fellow nightclub habitué Shannon married her beau Michael. They gave out discs that featured music played during the ceremony and at the reception. Selections included gruff vocalist Tom Waits’ m... MORE

A year ago tomorrow is my Mogoversary. Chances are I will be doing a million things and not have a chance to post, so I must take advantage of it today.
I looked back today to see what my first post was, and what I wanted to get out of Mog when I first posted. I still have yet to fulfill my promise of posting more of the talented bands out of Atlanta. Off the top of my head three notable bands that need mentioning are The Selmanaires and Gringo Star (though I really... MORE

I am not always (or even often) a Tom Waits fan, but "Day After Tomorrow," the final cut off the Body of War companion cd, is a song of unquestionable beauty and power, performed by Waits with an unaccustomed lyricism and grace (the voice on the accompanying video is much more growly).
Having fallen utterly under the spell of this song, I went looking for its provenance and found the following on Wikipedia:
Real Gone, Waits' first non-theatrical studio album since Mule Var... MORE

oh my wife and i are mourning, big time! and it is not even over, not yet. for the finest show in the history of television( yea, you heard me) is coming to a close, and quick. saying it is as painful as our beloved bubbles coming off smack( but hooray, he is clean in season 5). yes, there are only 2 more episodes in the brilliant 5 year, 60 episode run of "The Wire", David Simon's epic series about the gritty reality of life in Baltimore. and to boot two great characters hav... So I'm in the midst of a project at work that has me digging through Minneapolis newsweekly archives from the 80's. I've been coming across some pretty incredible concert and club ads. I'll be posting them here. They are so, so good. Here's a small start, from City Pages in 1982:
I was seven at the time and living in the burbs. I blew it. I suppose it would have looked something like this:... MORE

Imagine how different your childhood would have been if instead of Geoffrey the Giraffe on those commercials singing about not wanting to grow up you had Tom Waits. The world would be completely different. We'd probably have free health care, but I'm not complaining.... MORE

WOW ! I guess I overshot my anniversary! One year. Time flies when your having so much fun! It's been like one long Rock N' Roll year long party! So many great MOGsters out there, it sure makes for some interesting reading, listening, laughing, and crying. I'd never been on a forum for more than a week or two, until I crossed paths with MOG . I'd tried photography groups, cooking groups, gardening groups, outdoor, canoeing, and hiking groups, etc..., but I suppose my biggest... MORE

Lets get something perfectly clear.
Tom Waits can shit on a baseball bat and clock me right over the head with it and I'd still think he is the best.
So 2006 stunk. look at the previous post. I was still dealing with a lot of that and then......My car had all four of its tires ripped off in front of my house. 2 hours later after getting a rental I get to work. A bunch of meetings and Tums later I get a emergency meeting with my superiors/inferiors in Boston and ... MORE
