It's properly overcast and freezing here in Colorado, but my mood couldn't be more sunny. So what better music to put on than the Smiths? :) This is a carryover from last night, where I put on the VH1 Classic "BBC Crown Jewels" show recorded at the Derby Assembly Rooms. Morrissey was a lithe squirmer, swinging daffodils, Johnny was strumming and picking away on his Rickenbacker (I've got one just like it!). It's just time for the Smiths today.... MORE

The weather of past week has been amazing, and I've had some songs come up on random which have been perfect for walking home. Here's my sunny day playlist: The Smiths - William, It Was Really Nothing Crosby, Stills Nash & Young - Carry On Jack Johnson - Do You Remember Band Of Horses - The Funeral Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Coma Girl I know the lyrics of some of them say otherwise, but it works.... Watched The Smiths live in Germany on Concert.tv this morning. Nothing like Waxing Nostalgia. There is nothing better than watching Mozza and his dedicated fans cycling through the streets. (Insert Favorite Punchline here) I believe he is playing this one live on his "Greatest Hits" Tour.... MORE

And these videos keep me grounded. :)
I love this one especially. His voice is as close to a female's as a man's can be. The Cure and these guys keep me mildly sane. "spending warm summer days in doors..." Next time, it's a cure medley folks. cheers....... MORE

Lest us not forget, if it wasn't for our need to praise god on our own terms we may never have had the chance to slaughter all those kindly Indians.
Happy Turkey Day!
Get those giblets!!

From the Daily Mail Having long felt slightly embarrassed about my misspent rock chick youth, no one was more surprised than I by a recent poll among today's teenagers declaring the Eighties to be the coolest musical decade ever. Surely some mistake, I thought, as I rifled through a motley collection of vinyl encompassing everything from Depeche Mode, the Human League, Eurythmics and Simple Minds, to Soft Cell, the Bangles, and Curiosity Killed The Cat. In an a... MORE

Johnny Marr has said that The Smiths may reform. "Stranger things have happened so, you know, who knows?," Marr said to BBC Five Live's Victoria Derbyshire.
In previous years, different member of the band, including Marr have ruled out a reunion. Most recently Morrissey revealed that he turned down a near $75 million offer to tour again.
The offer called for Morrissey to do a minimum of 50 shows all over the world under the Smiths' name, with the only stipulation ... MORE

I had the chance to find someone who was willing to give me part of their bootleg Smiths mp3's. The collection included about 40 some shows from 1983 - 1986. This particular recording is one of the better quality mixes. Most of the recordings were never that great to begin with, but there are a few shows where someone was able to get very good recordings. I will be doing a series of Smiths bootlegs because they are my favorite band...ever!... MORE

Former guitarist from The Smiths, Johnny Marr has been honored by two universities in as many weeks. Marr's first accolade came at a ceremony at Trinity College in Dublin where, after speaking onstage, he was made an Honorary Patron of the Trinity College Philosophical Society.
The current guitarist in Modest Mouse, Marr's award in Dublin places him with the likes of Samuel Beckett, Bram Stoker, Oscar Wilde, Salman Rushdie and Al Pacino to the honor which rewards "individua... MORE

now she's gone. this disappoints me so much. the real world has reached into our little utopia. i don't know why, and at this point, i don't care to know why. some things just can't be undone, i guess. so, at least for today, i'll be using this lovely avatar from an artist introduced to me by her, and i will not be using caps. some would call this a futile, shallow gesture. i prefer to think of it as a heartfelt homage. oh mother, i can feel the soil falli... The best Smith's song. Just felt compelled to say that. And seemed like a good first post. Well anyway I really love that song. It is dreamy and up lifting. One of those "feel good" numbers. I can't really get enough of it.

It was the third effort from Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce, and Andy Rourke known as The Smiths. Tensions were high in the band and so were expectations. It was released in the UK in June of 1986. By this time Morrissey and Johnny Marr were beginning to clash and by the end of the tour for the record they rarely spoke. However, this record stands as proof that when things get rough it can breed amazing creativity. Morrissey, by this time, was getting lots of press, inter... MORE

Maybe this could be Chapter Whatever. No, this isn't Chapter 13. This is Chapter Whatever. Ugh... as if this week wasn't pisshappy enough... Until the next round... ~ 'Sunshine'... MORE

September 5: The Smiths, "How Soon is Now?" My relationship with "How Soon is Now?" is straight out of a sitcom. Before I even knew what I was listening, too, or had any taste to speak of, I was deeply touched by "How Soon is Now?" without even knowing it. It began in 1996, when I was listening to Z100 , the pop crapfest radio station of New York City. Keep in mind that I was 10 at this point, and it wasn't until I was about 15 that I realized there was more to music th... MORE

We all learn at a relatively early age, I think, that desire is not enough. We run into that wall with all our might, sure it will collapse under the sheer power of our want, armed only with our disbelief that we could get anything except what we're asking. And when we're sprawled on the ground after hitting that wall, before we can even assess what's broken, it tells us that, no matter how much we want it, we won't get it. To learn that there are times that, no matter h... MORE
