I'm pretty sure everyone on Mog knows The Pretenders. If not I posted a brief bio from Wikipedia below.
I love finding songs like this. I listened to many Pretenders albums casually and never really appreciated them until lately. They can play.
The Pretenders are an Anglo-American rock band. The original band consisted of group founder and main songwriter, Chrissie Hynde (vocals/guitar), James Honeyman-Scott (guitar/vocals/keyboards), Pete Farndon (bass guitar/vocal... MORE

I love itunes and the way I can pick songs that i really like and just download them and make a fun little mixy thing on my ipod. But I was wondering the other day if I am really giving myself a chance to listen to more songs by one band. There hasn't been a record in a very long time that i have listened to all the way through, until I rediscovered The Pretenders. I first heard them when I was in high school, very sick of Southern Rock and extremely in love with them. Turns ... MORE

Next up on my trip down my musical memory lane, The Pretenders! Chrissie Hynde was who I aspired to be like in my early teens; smart, tough, tell-it-like-it-is woman on her own terms. Their first album was (and still is) an oft-played part of my collection. I won't post my first choice, Precious, due to possibly offensive language. The second, Mystery Achievement, was part of my personal soundtrack for most of the 80s.

The album, Pretenders, was ... MORE

Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde will sing at the opening of her vegetarian restaurant, VegeTerranean, in her hometown of Akron, Ohio. Hynde, accompanied by an acoustic guitarist, will give a free mini-concert on September 15th at the grand launch of VegeTerranean. The restaurant will serve a meat-free vegetarian/Mediterranean cuisine, thus the clever name. The Pretenders, "I'll Stand By You"
This summer the Pretenders will tour the US with ZZ To... MORE

I was off MOG for an entire weekend, for the first time since I signed up in January. Here's why...
I saved about 50 LPs from my collection of about 250. After moving with them ten times, I finally said, "No more." All said, I have very few regrets about the ones I turfed. And I am very happy to still own The Ramones, Clash, Sex Pistols, Rezillos, and other old-school LPs. Over the years I have replaced quite a few albums on CD, but I kep... MORE

My brief but memorable introduction to The Pretenders as a child. Papa Oat: Oh wow! Look! The Pretenders are on Farm Aid! Little Oat: Who are they pretending to be? Papa Oat: laughing in tears

REACH FOR THE SKY , NOBODY MOVE !...Hey Mog, just wanted to get your attention for a second...This here post started out as a comment on Blair's "I love you MOG but..." post and wanted to go a step further than polite space-usage allowed (read: didn't want to thread-jack on his spot) as I really appreciated the thrust of what people were voicing, the dialogue...I thought I'd finish it on my own little piece, so lend me your eyeballs for a couple of ticks...I know MOGGING ... My criteria for a criminally underrated song is it has to appear less then 10 times in mixes at artofthemix.org. The Pretenders aren't really underrated as a group with their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame entry but I never see this song mentioned anywhere. It's not a check mark under the AMG album review or as a recommended song from the Pretenders catalog in those new playlist books coming out. Even Spin Magazine could have listed it under their greatest lost tracks issue the... MORE

A Day On The Green at the Bimbadgen Estate Winery is one of the most special events you can ever attend. Of course the wine was delicious, the food was sumptuous and the location was to die for on a late summery afternoon in February. Global warming be damned for a moment, let us all rejoice in the energy of rock 'n roll! But the line up of music we had this year in the Hunter Valley made my mouth water even more. On hand were Angus and Julia Stone, The Church, Paul Kell... MORE

We saw the Pretenders over the weekend at nice venue. We were supposed to see Paul Kelly and The Church as well, but we FORGOT THAT WE HAD TICKETS to this show until we got a call from the organizer at around 4:30. I blame early onset senility. Anyway, they were really good. Chrissie was in fine voice, and looking damn good, too. At one point she played a song I didn't recognize, what I thought was a good song, and said that it was "for the two people who bought ou... MORE

So, as soon as i finished the previous post, i went back to YouTube, put in "Chrissy Hynde" and "Avengers" and there it was: The interesting thing about this one is that i'm pretty sure that the shots of MacNee as Steed (including the one that Chrissy is printed into) were taken from the end of the episode The Forget-Me-Knot, which saw Diana Rigg's Mrs Peel out and Linda Thorson as Tara King in as Steed's partner. Recently I've been on a Pretenders kick, fueled by the release of the remastered and expanded editions of their first two albums, and the fact that I am FINALLY going to see them live in December. Pretenders 1 is hands-down one of my favorite albums of all time. So many of the band's classics come from that album, including "Kid," "Brass in Pocket," "Precious" and "Stop Your Sobbing." I've been really into "The Phone Call" and "Up the Neck" lately. Unfortunately, the s... MORE

I've been in a serious retro gig lately. I went by Tower Records in NoLita on Broadway the other day to check out their closing sale. Didn't find anything worthwhile. I went across the street to Other Music and found both of the Pretenders' first two CD's for a really good price.
I always thought Chrissie Hynde was awesome. Wished I could have seen them during the height of their career as a band.
I also picked up the latest Basement Jaxx CD. I have to say I'm ... MORE
