When we talked with the Hives back in Ocotber, they were scaling the US with Maroon 5 and performing small club gigs in between. The single was produced by Pharrell Williams and will be available as a digital download and a limited release 10" record. Hives fans are encouraged to design the artwork for the record release for possible use as the official album art. According to NME:

So does anybody have the scoop on The Hives and this Randy Fitzsimmons character? I've heard that he writes all their songs and manages the band. I've also heard that, although The Hives deny it, he is just a cover--not even a real person [something to do with the rights of their songs?]. So what'll it be? Any ideas? [and if this has been previously discussed...sorry! I couldn't find it anywhere though and have always wondered about it....]

The Hives, in many respects, seem to be the heirs to the Ramones: sartorial gimmick, jackhammer tempos, catchy earworm choruses. What's not to love?
