Changing opinions about an artist happens very infrequently for me. I've decided that my defining personality trait is that I'm a synthesizer -- in all aspects of my life, I seem to gather information and don't form opinions for a long, long time. But once I decide, that's usually it. So it is rare that a band can overcome my initial conception of them. But it has happened. Sometimes it's the band that changes, not me, but it's never really that black and white. I'm ... MORE
and the rest is pop music history.
Somebody buy the Beastie Boys a beer, License To Ill turns 21 this month.
Twenty one????? Time flies when you are rocking out...This one is for Adam Horowitz, Adam Yauch, and Mike Diamond. Three guys who changed the landscape of pop music and pop culture by constantly reinventing themselves...

Seeks made a post about instrumental tracks by the Beastie Boys that instantly reminded me of an old favorite that I haven't heard in a while. The song is 'Sabrosa' from off of their Ill Communication album released in '94. A shot from the classic 'Sabotage' video Definitely a funky track that is catchy as hell. To be honest, whenever I hear this track, I expect some scantily clad female to answer the knock on the door to find a porn star male dressed as the cable repai... MORE
So it's finally friday again! I don't even have plans for this weekend but it's supposed to be really nice here in DC. I recently saw an article in the paper featuring The Beastie Boys. I knew that they working on something a while back but I recently found out that it's going to be an all instrumental album! I can't wait to hear their new album! Don't even remember when it's supposed to come out. Anyway the article reminded me of how I used to play some of their ins... MORE

In addition to their intimate early August shows, Mike D, Ad Rock and Nathaniel Hörnblowér will head west and play "Gala" shows. According to a press release, these shows "will be in smaller spots, more exclusive, more intimate." Ummm, last time we were at Red Rocks Amphithe... MORE

Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego, if you remember the story, got boiled alive but were still prophesying, or singing, or something. Not that the Old Testament story has a damned thing to do with the rhymes. But come on. They name-dropped J.D. Salinger and Mario Andretti in this one. You gotta give 'em props for that.
I think i started this monstrosity known as hip hop night, i feel obligated to drop my two cents in!
"Pump Up The Volume" is one of those movies that immediately conjures up the specter of my insurgent youth. When I was in high school, I was mostly a rebel in my own mind, but I did cause my parents and teachers (and guidance counselors, and priests, and the FBI... don't ask) enough grief to keep it interesting. Whenever I watch this film, I am a teenager again... but without the big hair, parental oppression, and short attention span. Besides being a honest take on te... MORE
