Taking the third spot on my top 10 list for Sasquatch! are one of my favorite bands, Tegan and Sara. We got some pretty sweet spots in the pit thanks to a lot of the Cold War Kids fans who left, which was great because Tegan and Sara really aren't a band that you can sit far away on a lawn to watch; with their witty and engaging stage banter and emotion laced songs, it's almost silly to distance yourself away from these girls when they're tearing up the stage. I'm going to have to start off by saying that I've gone to some killer ass shows this year... just a few include Daft Punk at the LA sports arena where kids walked out asking if they had just been abducted by aliens, Arcade Fire / LCD Soundsystem / Blonde Redhead where 20,000 kids showed up to Randall's Island, Paramore (two times? maybe three. i've lost count), Tegan and Sara three times in a row this summer... Alright I have to tell everyone about this. Last night my roommates and I went to the Tegan and Sara concert in Orlando last night and it was awesome!!!!! They gave a 4 song encore and ended with living room which was amazing. After the concert was over we went out the side door in search of the tour bus. First close analysis of Tegan and Sara for myself was the broke-living-phase almost entirely deliberately experienced whilst in Ireland, feeling cynical about life; I remember repeating "I Know" and "Monday" in my living room. Well, my last two tracks have painted pretty vivid horror movie pictures, so I decided to go another direction with this one. The lyrics are pretty minimalist and I think might actually be about a more metaphorical kind of ghost, but I still find this creepy. Whether it's about an actual phantom or a bad relationship or just bad memories, it's definitely about being haunted. This review is long overdue. It has been two long weeks since I saw Tegan and Sara at the Malibu Performing Arts Center. The Malibu Perf. is surprisingly cheesy, but the beauty of the place is that it is really quite small. I was in the first row, a little off to the side, and I didn’t miss my glasses much—a refreshing change from seeing Bob Dylan. I first heard this song from the TV show Grey's Anatomy [I seriously love that show]. Although the lyrics are very straight forward about love going wrong and asking yourself 'Well, where does the good go?' I think it goes a little deeper though. When we think of love we think of love at first sight, kissing, holding hands. What about the love that you share for your family or friends? The world has gotten pretty screwed up recently. But sitting on hold for ages has allowed me to listen to some of my music for a change. And I love Tegan and Sara. I don't know much about their history but I always associated them with Belle and Sebastian which I don't care for. Maybe it was just the "blank and blank" titling.
