Really enjoying the recently reissued Steve Hillage catalog this morning. While many of my colleagues know Hillage for his work with System 7 and the Orb, they don't know much about his guitar-god status during the 1970s. Next to a Rainbow in Curved Air by Terry Riley (1968) my most favorite album (with a rainbow in the title) is Rainbow Dome Musick by Steve Hillage (1979), a magnificent two tracks/two sides album from the Canterbury school of progressive rock. I don't really know whether to give credit to Brian Eno for liberating late 70s English proggers like Hillage to giving longer expression to the hauntingly beautiful, but oh-so-short instrumentals that figure only as too-brief interm...
