Blog post image preview [Stereolab - Vodiak / 3:19]
Back in March of this year, a group of musicians (including Beth Ditto, Richard Ashcroft, Sugababes, the Enemy and Pearl Lowe) teamed up to make a musical version of the "consequences game" in aid of the homeless charity Crisis. Each artists would pick up a composition from where the previous ended. (Read more about it here) I would like to invite you to play the same game but with songs and following the rules below (adapted from these)

Blog post image preview that I purchased any music. The other day, I got a wild hair up my butt and hit a used cd store out in Topeka Kansas... I darn near struck gold in my bizarro little musical world that I inhabit. I picked up three winners and one stinker. My next three (including this one) will be covering said purchases, minus the stinker. First off was a Stereolab compilation entitled Oscillons From The Anti-Sun. It contained 3 discs of music and one disc loaded with Dvd's, and stickers... MORE

I only did this review so I could type Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements multiple times Stereolab is one of the few bands in existence that crafted their own unique sound, combining influences as diverse as 60’s lounge pop, Krautrock, and French existentialism. Stereolab’s first major label release, Transient Random Noise Bursts with Announcements sounds exactly like a Stereolab album. This is not to say the album is easy or derivative. Transient seems ... Stereolab just wrapped up a new album and have announced a few live shows. The forthcoming LP is called Chemical Chords and it will be available worldwide August 18 (but for some reason you have to wait one extra day if you're in the US). Tracklist: 01 "Neon Beanbag" 02 "Three Women" 03 "One Finger Symphony" 04 "Chemical Chords" 05 "The Ecstatic Static" 06 "Valley Hi!" 07 "Silver Sands" 08 "Pop Molecule (Molecular Pop 1)" 09 "Self Portrait with 'Electric Brain'" 10 "N... Purple Collection 4 (Brakhage)

Free music video of Brakhage (4)
The series of noise bursts that signal the beginning of this song trigger an involuntary rush of memories. This is a specific time in my life: the period between when I started drinking, at 22 years, and meeing Erika, at 24. Just those 2 years. In a typical paradox, this was both the most miserable and the most fun period of my life. But it was the time of my life just before I figured out what kind of person I was. Some of the people I thought were really cool were prett... MORE

For Groon ~ Pt.4

Blog post image preview Last one, I promise. This release was very mellow. It was released in 97 and I didn't like it quite as much as the older stuff. It's not horrible, just not as intriguing to me. Nonetheless, there are some tracks I really like on here, they expanded their sound to include some different sounding arrangements and instrumentation, while maintaining the layered vocals and the base sound that put them on the map. I particularly like the "house" sounds in the second song here.... MORE

For Groon ~ Pt.3

Blog post image preview These are from a compilation of sorts I guess. It's got a bunch of their old stuff on it. It's not as produced and the sound is a bit unrefined, but I love the crassness of it. The tones are harsher and it's a bit (just a bit) more guitar driven and noisy. I like it! For Groon ~ Pt2.

Blog post image preview This disc has my most favorite track off of it, The Noise Of Carpet. I love the vocalization going on here on both of these tracks. If you listen (especially The Noise Of Carpet) there are about three vocal layers or more going on here. I think that it's absolutely genius! The Noise Of Carpet Metronomic Underground

Blog post image preview I got acquainted with Stereolab back in the mid 90's. I was really burnt out on metal (at the time). Everyone was doing grunge or trying to sound like Nirvana or acoustipop crap, or just really horrible death metal. And I was done with it for a bit. The record store we used to have was playing this one day when I walked in and I went straight to the counter and asked about it. I think I bought the copy they were playing over the in-store stereo. This first song is called N... MORE

Blog post image preview ...name: "Crash Pryor"...eye color: "brown"...Karen O? "Yes, please!!!"...I have a playlist that I sometimes check with a morning cup of Joe...while I get it together and this first cut is on it...it comes off of this album... I think Sterolab's lead singer is one of the cuter experimental Rock 'n Rollers out there and since it's just too fekkin' early for Karen O (mebbe later on, she's a night time kinda chick in my mind's eye, wild game that can't be tamed whic... I'm in such a terrible mood

(13)
And listening to Stereolab isn't helping me at all. It's trying to unfetter my soul when I'd much rather sit here and pity myself. Damn music doing something to my insides, trying to make me feel good.
