when there's nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire... a tribute to Sentenced - Killing Me Killing You " burning me, burning you, burning us to ash"

I've been enjoying this terrific album by Stars. The music is at once uplifting and melancholy, my personal favorite of dichotomies. Perhaps it is the refreshing notion of moving positively through whatever crap life hands you. I absolutely love this video as well. And, yes, it is snowing in Chicago.... MORE

Post my declaration to explore my MOG I would like to say that this thing is getting better. I made my first purchase the other day at JB based on my MOG exploring. I had never heard of STARS and most likely would never have come across them if it was not for the click here, read there exploring this thing has on offer. And I have to say I am stoked with my purchases: set your self on fire and in the bedroom after the war really have won me over. Sooooooo in e... MORE

This was going to be my first time seeing Stars and the anticipation was wearing me out. Seriously, all day at work all I could think about were all the Amy Millan and Torquil Campbell duets I was going to hear that night. It's pretty safe to say that I wasn't going to be disappointed. The only concern of the night was WHERE THE HECK I WAS GOING TO FIND PARKING ??? Snagged a spot about 6 blocks away and headed towards Bimbo's. The night was unusually warm for SF thi... MORE

I am getting pretty excited to see Stars with Lloyd Cole supporting. I have mixed feelings about the new record however. I've only been able to listen to it a couple of times, but I seem to like "Set Yourself on Fire" and "Heart" a bit better. I have 2 days to get the new record in my system, but there is so much music I am listening to right now that I can't neglect...and on that list: 1. Apartment - The Dreamer Evasive
2. matt pond PA - Last Light
3. New Buffal... MORE

During the ever-popular Myspace era, I was lucky to have been bored so many times and have clicked around different people's pages, because that is how I found one of my favorite bands to this day. I was little nosy back then, finding out what's up with not only my friends but also my brother's and on one of his friend's pages played "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead". Immediately, I fell in love with the sound. I found the Stars myspace page and downloaded each song I could, includ... MORE

Stars' third album, Set Yourself on Fire is the kind where you listen 2 or 3 times and let it slowly evaporate to the back of your head. Fast forward 3 years later when a set of covers and remixes is born- Do You Trust Your Friends? Some of the artists who participated are Metric, Minotaur Shock, The Stills, Jason Collett, Montag, The Most Serene Republic, and Apostle of Hustle.
The track that stands out the most is a remix of Your Ex-Lover is Dead by Final Fantasy. The ori... MORE

I just downloaded this off the Arts & Crafts site and I'm already enthralled...not least because of those Morrissey overtones! (The Duke of Atari has never sounded better.) As beautiful as 'Set Yourself On Fire' is, this one may have topped it - although I say so based only on my first listen, and my anticipation for anything Stars would be particularly magnified in these the Dog Days. (October 18th can't come soon enough; they're playing Town Hall that day.) But isn't i... MORE

Yeah...i haven't posted in a really long time. Life as been just kicking my ass lately. Got the new Maroon 5 album a while back, and i like it. I like the album and then so much i joined the fan club. Yeah, it's that good. am kinda into "Gym Class Heroes" now, not too much, mind you, but i do think they are good, it's a bit of shock, seeing has how i'm not really into hip-hop all that much, but if the music's good then i'll listen, and prolly like if i think what they are say... Perhaps it's because I'm so indecisive that my musical tastes are all over the map...
I thought I'd write this post because the songs might have been missed by people who weren't Stars fans.
The album, 'Do You Trust Your Friends' was a compilation of remixes and covers of Stars songs by (I think) all-Canadian acts. While the Stars are ultra-pop gooey-goodness, these versions of their songs are quite a range.
Being a fan of the Junior Boys anyways, I thought I'd pick ... MORE

So for those of you haven't been aware, Canada is certainly growing on me. I can tell you the very day my love affair began with our neighbors to the north, and that was November 18th, 2005. I was going to see my favorite band from the northern city of Bellingham, and they had chosen a band called "Stars" to open for them. When the stars got on stage, i was prepared for anything, but i wasn't prepared for strings. Eventually I had to turn to my concert buddy and say "This... MORE
